Shell cracker plant looking to hire military veterans

Shell Pennsylvania Chemical is holding an informational session at Heinz Field and the Community College of Beaver County on Wednesday for military veterans who are interested in working at the ethane cracker plant being built in Potter Township.

The Military Petrochemical Day is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Heinz Field (UPMC Suites) and 6-8 p.m. at CCBC in Monaca.

The event is for veterans, reservists and active duty personnel who want to learn more about career opportunities at the petrochemical plant.

Shell Chemical Appalachia LLC, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell, is building the $6 billion facility on the Ohio River with a view toward using ethane from the Marcellus Shale and processing it into ethylene and, finally, polyethylene for the plastics industry. An estimated 600 jobs are expected.

Among those attending the Heinz Field event will be former Steelers halfback Rocky Bleier and Steelers offensive linemane Alejandro Villanueva — Vietnam and Afghanistan veterans respectively.

The events coincide with Shell’s posting of new jobs at its Beaver County facility in the production department for production operator positions.
