Mercer School District To Expand Police Coverage At District Schools

Mercer Area School District officials are hoping to increase police coverage on school property making the part-time officers full time year round positions in order to retain the school resource officers which have a higher turn overrate because the position is a part time seasonal position.

The district has one patrolman at each building – the middle-high school and elementary school during the school year according to an Allied Mews article published last week.

According to that sam two patrolman are part-timers with the Mercer borough police department, and the cost is covered by the district, said Superintendent Dr. William Gathers.

School board members recently voted unanimously in favor of having two full-time patrolmen at each building year-round; that would include summer.
